
The newsletter’s main feature is a report on Tina Bedggood’s compelling talk about her grandmother, Ann Innis Dagg, a pioneering researcher who studied giraffes in Africa during the 1950s. Her groundbreaking work continues today through the Anne Innis Dagg Foundation, which focuses on promoting conservation efforts.
Our bus trip to Huia proved to be a journey into West Auckland’s fascinating past. The stop at Mill Cottage in Sel Peacocke Drive was particularly memorable, with its walls displaying captivating old photographs. Among them was a striking image of Francisco Rodrigues Figueira on horseback—better known to locals as Don Buck, the man whose name lives on in the area.

Our annual Christmas lunch returned to the popular McHugh’s of Cheltenham, and what a day it was! This year we added a special touch to our journey, stopping at the charming Friend and Whau Café on the slopes of Mt Eden for morning coffee.
