This month’s newsletter celebrates the power of faith, friendship, and community. Guest speaker Susanna Burton-Thompson captivated members with “A Life of Surprises: My Journey as an Image Hunter.” From photographing for Truth and TVNZ to serving aboard the MV Logos, which brings the Gospel to far-flung places, Susanna’s journey was filled with miracles—including the story of Francis, a Zambian policeman freed from death row after prayers and a personal letter to President Chiluba. She also shared the dramatic 1988 shipwreck of the MV Logos and her joyful marriage at 69, with her 96-year-old mother walking her down the aisle.

On September 2nd, members enjoyed a delightful outing to Ryder’s Cinema, hosted by Clint Ryder, featuring the classic comedy Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. It was particularly lovely to see Janet Geddes join the group, marking the first opportunity to catch up with her since Andrew’s stroke.

Community spirit also shone bright during a refreshing stroll on the Te Atatu Coastal Walkway on Monday, September 1st. Two of our members, Alan Verry and Vince Middeldorp, joined the Hibiscus Coast Rebus Club’s “Amblers and Ramblers” for the walk. Despite an ominous start with dark clouds, the weather held. Alan Verry, ever the invaluable guide, led the way through varied terrain, including concrete footpaths, boardwalks, and gravel trails. The walk fulfilled Dr. Roger Seheult’s advice on the health benefits of sunlight, fresh air, and nature. It concluded perfectly with coffee at the Delicious Café.
