Walking around Howick Historic Village

At the September monthly meeting, there were eleven visitors. They had come to hear James Duncan give the third of his three talks on Auckland’s tram system. James described how one man’s effort to save a tram resulted in the founding of the Old Time Transport Preservation League, and how they worked with the Royal Aeronautical Association to establish Auckland’s Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT).

The newsletter also records a bus trip to Howick Historic Village, which was made possible by the West Auckland Men’s Rebus Club and the Waitakere Combined Rebus Club working together to make up the numbers required to hire a bus. On the day of the trip, the Viva la dirt league was at the village making a YouTube video. Their videos have been hugely successful, with the three most viewed having had 24M, 17M and 14M views.
