Lindsay Roberts set out the steps to take when faced with a person experiencing cardiac arrest

Long-time St. John ambulance officer Lindsay Roberts shared his 37 years of experience in emergency response with members at our October meeting. His talk, “Three Steps for Life,” offered a clear, practical guide to saving a life after a cardiac arrest — Call 111, Start CPR, and Use a Defib.

Lindsay reminded us that quick action can double a person’s chance of survival, and that today’s defibrillators (AEDs) are simple and safe for anyone to use. His hands-on advice about CPR technique, airway safety, and how to stay calm under pressure made this session one of the most valuable we’ve had all year.

Members enjoying the relaxed setting at Gloria Jean’s Cafe

Our October coffee morning took place at Gloria Jean’s Café in Henderson, a familiar favourite that’s recently rebranded but still offers friendly service and good coffee. As Vince Middeldorp noted, prices may have crept up, but the company and conversation remain priceless.

Thanks again to Ian Smith for organising these monthly get-togethers, which continue to be a relaxed way to catch up with fellow members and friends.
