On Wednesday, 28th August 2024, the West Auckland Men’s Rebus Club and the Waitakere Combined Rebus Club will host a coffee morning at Metlifecare Orion Point, situated at 62 Tahingamanu Road, Hobsonville. This event will be our third coffee morning held at a retirement village. The inaugural event took place on 30th July 2021 at Metlifecare Waitakere Gardens in Henderson, and the second occurred on 26th April 2023 at Selwyn Village in Pt Chevalier.
These events have been a resounding success for several reasons:
- Generous Hosts: Metlifecare and Selwyn Village generously provide complimentary morning tea (or coffee) and snacks.
- Luxurious Venues: The events are hosted in the retirement villages’ opulent restaurant lounges, offering a more delightful experience than the usual mall or shopping centre cafes.
- Guilt-Free Visits: The coffee mornings allow for a pressure-free exploration of the village, removing any guilt associated with visiting solely as sightseers on advertised retirement village open days.
Metlifecare Orion Point makes for an intriguing visit, having been recently completed. Site works commenced in January 2019, with construction concluding in December 2023. The site works contract, awarded to John Fillmore Contracting (JFC), amounted to $15 million, and the construction contract with Kalmar Construction totalled $82 million. The facilities, as depicted in the photographs, are quite remarkable.
The morning coffee gathering will begin at 10:00 am. Attendees are advised to use their own vehicles for transportation. For those who do not have a car, it is recommended to arrange carpooling with other members who are going.
