In our May 2024 Newsletter, we delve into an enlightening talk by our club treasurer, Charles Nicholls, on The Alhambra in Spain—a stunning monument to Islamic architecture.
Charles took us on a historical journey, starting with the Moors’ invasion of Spain and their subsequent advance into France before their eventual defeat. He also explored the region’s earlier occupations by the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, and Goths, providing a comprehensive backdrop to the story of The Alhambra.
The Alhambra, a Nasrid Dynasty masterpiece, saw successive rulers’ contributions. The narrative culminates with the exile of the last ruler of Granada, Abu Abdullah Muhammad XII, also known as Boabdil, in 1493.
